New Program Brings Fresh Groceries Right to Your Hotel Door

New Program Brings Fresh Groceries Right to Your Hotel Door

Learn about the pilot program that gives hotel guests easy access to fresh groceries.

When you spend a lot of time traveling, there’s nothing like the comfort of a warm, home-cooked meal.  This is a sentiment that an extended-stay hotels like Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham understands.  In an effort to offer their guests value and convenience, this hotel company has launched a pilot program that brings the supermarket into the hotel room.

Partnering with grocery delivery companies Peapod and Instacart, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham launched an in-room cooking program called Homemade @ Hawthorn.  This program uses recipes developed by chef Robin Miller to offer guests the opportunity to cook easy, yet delicious homemade meals right in their rooms.  All the guest needs to do is select a recipe, and then order the ingredients through the program.

According to Kirk Hart, VP of brand operations for Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, Wyndham Hotel Group, “Extended-stay guests—visiting nurses, salespeople, people relocating—are the stars of our business, and when traveling for a long stretch of time, they want to get the food that keeps them on their routine.”

With the rooms at Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham equipped with fridges, cooktops, garbage disposals, and all the necessary cooking implements, giving guests the opportunity to cook for themselves was a no-brainer.  Hart noted that interest in in-room cooking appeals to a wide range of guests; namely those who are craving a taste of home or those who those who like to control what they consume.

The program is currently being piloted in select hotels in and around Chicago, Illinois; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Hartford, Connecticut.  The company plans to roll out more services as things progress.  Hart emphasizes, “We believe as extended-stay hotels continue to test and provide different offerings, we’ll make sure we’re on the forefront with recipes, meal kits and other things that appeal to long-term travelers.”
